The Caroline Seniors are a group of older residents of the Town of Caroline, NY (and surrounding areas). They receive some funding from the Town of Caroline, and they save their pennies carefully, allowing them to organize two holiday meals each year, a field trip, and their monthly meetings with dish-to-pass lunch. New members are welcome! The activities and program are oriented toward seniors, but members and guests can be of any age. |
Monthly Dish to Pass
The Caroline Seniors used to meet every second Monday of the month, at noon, at the Old Fire Hall, 522 Valley Road, in Brooktondale. That was pre-COVID. Typically, attendees brought a dish-to-pass and contributed $1. The meeting started with introductions, followed by a break to eat, and then the meeting continued. When the meeting was over, participants turned their attention to a guest presenter who had been invited to address a relevant topic.
As the pandemic recedes (or appears to recede), the Caroline Seniors have begun to meet again in person. If you would like to be kept up to date, please call Wil Lawrence at 607-277-2706. If you would like to join us, but cooking, transportation or funds are a challenge for you, you can also call Wil. Leave a message if she doesn't answer the phone! A couple of anonymous angels are willing to arrange transportation for you. They are also willing to make an extra dish and contribute a donation on your behalf. Come for the cheerful conversation and good food, stay for the helpful tips. |
Exercise classes suited for seniors
Local residents, with help from Lifelong Learning in Ithaca, have organized exercise classes that take place weekly in Brooktondale and are suitable for seniors.
"Enhanced Fitness" meets every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning at 10 a.m. at the Fire Hall (the new one). They have re-started in person classes recently. Classes are very affordable, at $5 per person per class. |
